The greenhouses were created in 1988 and are considered a lively museum of tropical, subtropical plants. Biological diversity of plants and their use in industry is studied with the help of scientific workers and travelers. The live collections in Orangery are enriched by mutual cooperation with different gardens around the world. At present, cultural forms of more than 270 species of hot-loving plants of about 900kv m are of great scientific and aesthetic significance. The expositions of water and coastal plants have further enriched the greenhouses. The endangered plants are important not only for this garden, but also for the republic. In these collections, 100 species of plants were entered into the international Red Book. You can get acquainted with a variety of bonsai collections in Orangery and in open conditions. Naturally there are many bonsai plants in the Dendrology Institute. Bonsai is the art of boundless creativity.

Dendrology park is based on landscape architecture. The Dendrology Institute is considered as a national wealth as an example of landscape architecture.

There are about 1,800 species in live collections, including 1540 forms and sort. “Dendrology” (77 species), “Cultivated Plants” (600 species), “Decorative Plants” (over 480 species), “Fund greenhouses” (about 270 species) are exhibited and included in the following collection areas.


Plant specimens here are the largest exposition of the garden. The trees and shrubs in collections are imported from many countries and continents, and plants are grouped on the basis of systematic kinship principle. The main wealth of dendrology is about 1,800 species of trees, shrubs and liana collections.

The Dendrology Institute is at the top of the world’s top collection of species and age composition.

Particular attention is paid to the protection of anthropogenic and naturally occurring rare species. Out of 141 types of trees and shrubs, Azerbaijan’s Red Book, 69 species belong to the Dendrology Institute. These crops can be considered as national wealth.

Expositions show subtropical, tropical, forest species, grass, field, desert plants. There are 25 species of plants around the water pools. Plants brought from different regions are located in Alpinariums created in the fields. Natural flora’s plant expositions have a wide variety of species. 255 species of Mediterranean countries, 105 species of Australian and New Zealand flora, 240 species of Caucasian flora, 170 species of East Asian flora, 180 species from North and South America, and more than 109 species of trees and shrubs from Central Asia flora. Dendrology Institute collects 22 genus of roses and 300 species of roses, 9 genus and 35 species of daffodil flower, 25 genus and 42 species of lilies, 6 genus and 12 species of Iris from the world flora. 75 genus and 162 species, 28 genus of cactus and 56 species, as well as other plant collections, are characterized by extensive non-extensive perennial plants.

The distinguishing feature of the collection is the variety of decorations from the natural flora of the subtropical zone. The rich collection of tulips contains about 15 genus and 26 species.

The collection of flower-ornamental plants created in the Dendrology Institute is of great importance. These collections serve as the basis for introductory research. Many species found here are considered as the etalon of decorative art for perennial compositions based on landscape architecture.

Cultivated plant expositions include about 600 genus and up to 700 plant species.

Expositions illustrate the evolution, origin and introduction of agricultural plants. They can be traced to the variations of plants from the wild ancestors and their first low-productivity to modern high-yielding varieties. Here you will be able to get acquainted with the techniques of cultivation in the soil, pruning and giving shapes to the fruit trees. At the Dendrology Institute, 18 genus and 400 species of pomegranate collection, 128 genus of fruit trees and 60 genus and 130 species of berries were collected.

The collection of plants containing essential oil consists of 420 species. There are 370 species of medicinal plants in the collection. The collection of wild species of fruit plants consists of 62 species and forms.
